KANAWHA COMMUNITIES THAT CARE
Changing Lives Everyday
To create a unified community response to prevent youth substance abuse and support the development of effective community programs to promote a safer, healthier and drug-free Kanawha County.
WHO WE ARE
Here at Kanawha Communities That Care, we know that sometimes all it takes to change the world is a little support. Since our founding in 2000, we have been determined to make an impact. The core of our efforts is to bring our team’s fresh ideas and passion to drug prevention, social services, and education services. Through all of our endeavors we hope to display the conviction behind our beliefs.
Tell Drugs to Take a Hike
With the month of May being Mental Health Awareness Month, we are having a hiking competition! Tell Drugs to Take a Hike will run from May 1-31 with the person logging the most miles winning a gift. So get out and get active! We will also be plugging different themes on our Facebook page so be sure to check that out.
Students Against Destructive Decisions
SADD is a youth-based, peer-to-peer organization that promotes youth empowerment and uses peer influence to spread the message of positive decision-making. The SADD organization is comprised of thousands of Chapters that embrace a “no use” policy and help educate their peers about potentially destructive decisions regarding underage drinking, impaired driving, other drug use, bullying, and suicide.
Helping The Community
The Problem Gamblers Help Network of West Virginia has declared that problem gambling can significantly affect the youth as they are much more likely to develop a gambling addiction than adults. With sports betting in full effect, problem gambling has become a proactive focus within West Virginia.
